Logic circuit gates are electronic equipment embedded in the circuit that automates and controls the flow of a signal with the help of Boolean functions. Analog signal processing to binary is carried out by logic circuit gates. This device is the basic unit in logic circuits or any electronic circuit process that makes use of digital to analog signal conversion or the automation and flow of digital signals or information. Although vacuum tubes, optics, molecular, fluidic, pneumatic, or even mechanical components can be used to build logic circuit gates, diodes and transistors are the most common electrical switches used in these gates.

What are the Different Types of Logic Gates?

Logic circuit gates have distinct logic functions. The most common of these are known as "basic gates." These include: 

Logic circuit gates come up with many different logic functions. The frequently used function over here is called basic gates. They are given below:

  • AND Gates - These gates consist of multiple inputs that are processed into a unique information output based on the positive integration of high potential signals in the inputs. This device is used to generate high potential signals only and only if both the inputs register as high potential signals.
  • OR Gates - An OR gate has numerous inputs and a single output, much like an AND gate. In this instance, the system will implement logically producing a high signal if one or more of the inputs are high, rather than needing a positive combination of one signal. For instance, two ones or a one and a zero may result in a strong signal, while two zeros will result in zeros.
  • NOT Gates - The NOT gates, also known as inverters, process the signal in the opposite direction of its value. For example. A one will invert as a zero, and a zero will invert as a 1.

Many other types of logic circuit gates function available that bring modification with a possible manipulation in the logic of the logic circuit gates.

  • NAND Gate - As opposed to an AND gate, NAND will process two or more high signals, such as zero, and many other combinations as one.
  • NOR Gate - In contrast to an OR gate, this will output a one if any combination of the inputs registers a zero signal.
  • Buffer Gate - A Buffer logic gate functions in the opposite way to a not gate in that it transmits a signal from input to output without changing it.

What are the Applications of Logic Gates?

Logic circuit gates are essentially the building blocks of computers since CPUs use binary logic. As a result, they are present in a variety of digital circuit types, including:

  • Multiplexers and demultiplexers
  • Encoders and Decoders
  • Full and half adders
