Reed Relays

Reed relays are electromagnetic devices designed to open and close electrical contacts by utilising a magnetic field. These relays integrate reed switches with two ferromagnetic blades (called reeds) sealed within a glass tube. When an electric current is applied to a coil surrounding the glass envelope, it produces a magnetic field that attracts the contacts and closes the circuit. Conversely, when the current is removed, the contacts spring back open, breaking the circuit. One of the defining features of a reed relay is its simplicity and efficiency in switching signals, making it ideal for low-power, high-speed applications where reliability is key.

Why Buy Reed Relays?

Reed relays offer a multitude of benefits in terms of reliability, precision, and versatility.  Their hermetically sealed design ensures long life and resistance to environmental factors, while their fast switching speeds and low power consumption make them well-suited for high-speed and low-power circuits. Additionally, reed relays provide excellent electrical isolation between the control and load circuits, making them perfect for applications that require robust safety and accuracy.

Different Types of Reed Relays

We have high-quality reed relays, including form A (Normally Open) relays, the most common type. We also carry form B (Normally Closed) relays, useful in some specialised applications. Our form C (Changeover) or SPDT relays provide a switch between two contacts, providing more versatile switching options. In addition, our high-voltage relays are designed specifically for switching high-voltage circuits.

Check Our Range of Reed Relays (Based on Coil Type and Mounting Styles)

Our reed relay range includes multiple options based on coil type and mounting styles. Each relay serves specific application needs, offering versatility and adaptability for different environments and purposes. Based on mounting styles, our range includes surface mount, panel mount, PCB mount, rack mount, chassis mount, through-hole, plug-in, and snap-in reed relays.

  • Latching Reed Relay: A latching reed relay is ideal for low-power applications, as it "latch" in position, reducing energy consumption.
  • Non-Latching Reed Relay: Our non-latching relays are preferred for applications requiring frequent and reliable state switching. They ensure a fail-safe mode when power is off.
  • Out of Bounds Reed Relays: These relays are designed for situations needing extra tolerance in their switch range. They operate beyond standard conditions and are suitable for more extreme or specialised applications.

Typical Uses of Reed Relays

Reed relays find applications in a variety of fields, such as:

  • Telecommunications
  • Automotive Industry
  • Test and Measurement Equipment
  • Industrial Automation
  • Medical Devices
  • Consumer Electronics
  • Aerospace
  • Security Systems
