Circular Connector Backshells

If you are looking for a wide variety of high-quality circular connector backshells, you are right. Enrgtech provides connector backshells from some of the leading brands in the market.

Circular connector backshells are considered components present in a wiring system and attached to the cable side of a circular connector to ensure integrity and provide robustness. Circular connector backshells are commonly separate from the head of the connector itself, and they attach the cable to the connector through a clamp. When choosing connectors, paying attention to the many ordering parameters is essential. For example, the circular connector part numbers may include over thirty characters, indicating different configuration specifications.

What are Circular Connector Backshells used for?

Circular connector backshells are very important in protecting the connectors and maintaining the reliability of the cables and the entire system. They prevent dust, moisture, and any liquids into the connector head by offering a tight seal against the rope. They also serve as strain relief for the connector assembly, ensuring that the line does not bend, exceeding its limit that could permanently damage the cable. With such benefits, circular connector backshells have proven to be convenient. Enrgtech provides some excellent quality connector backshells that will properly achieve all the backshells' objectives and meet your requirements.

Types of Connectors Backshells

When you plan to build a connector shell, the first thing you need to consider is the type of backshell you need. The appropriate cover for a connector depends upon the environment and its usage. For example, connectors used in naval control systems need humidity, dust, and water specifications, whereas the shells used in aerospace applications may need weight-limiting construction and radiation hardening. The vocabulary of the shell type may vary among different manufacturers; therefore, always make sure to refer to a datasheet related to your desired connector category and manufacturer so you can have better information on the various types of connectors available.

Strain Relief Backshells

Strain relief backshells are supportive devices that grip the cable to protect the wires, mainly the contact junction, from the stress put on the wire. One thing about strain relief backshells is that they do not provide any electromagnetic interference or radio frequency interference protection and are instructed to be used only in clean and dry environments.

How to Select the Proper Connector Backshell?

The main thing that will lead to proper backshell selection is product application. There must be a complete description of the backshell's intended purpose to achieve this. As the complexity of the application increases, the questions become detailed over time. The primary application requirements are as follows:

  • First comes the Connector type and the port number that must check before purchasing.
  • Then you need to look at the cable or the cable-bundle diameter and give a detailed description of the cable make-up to get better information and cable description.
  • The intended environment is also crucial, such as the ground support, shipboard, airframe, space, etc.
  • The restrictions or specifications like size, weight, shape, etc., must also be considered.
  • The performance requirements include strain-relief, moisture resistance, water-tight, working-room, shield termination, medium to heavy-duty product performance, etc.
  • For shielding terminating backshells details description of the cables and the application is needed.

ABAC MIL-DTL-38999 Series III Screen Trap Backshells AB Connectors MIL-DTL-38999 series III screen trap backshells are designed with simplicity of assembly in mind, the unique method of securing the shielding or braid is achieved by securing it between a male and female thread at the cable entry point of the backshell which provides the bonding joint, no special additional tools are required (capable of terminating single, double or optimised screening), this in turn can be rubber booted for additional protection. These Mil-DTL-38999 backshells are available in small or larger cable entry types and feature mechanical strain relief and environmental sealing with a grounded backshell, manufactured from aluminium and cadmium plated. These backshells are ideally suited for use in defence and aerospace applications such as surveillance systems, thermal imaging, fixed wing, landing and missile systems etc. when used in conjunction with the appropriate AB Connectors MIL-DTL-38999 Series III circular connector. AB Connectors ABAC MIL-DTL-38999 Series III These ABAC MIL-DTL-38999 Series III connectors were developed to meet the stringent requirements of the Military, Industrial and Aerospace Industries. The Robust design of these versatile 38999 connectors is ideal for use where shock and EMI/RFI protection is required, also these MIL-DTL-38999 connectors have a quick mate threaded coupling system combined with a high performance anti-vibration mechanism. A unique feature of these connectors is a stub acme style thread on the coupling nut and receptacles to avoid the possibility of cross threading which also ease of blind mating. The EMI-RFI performance of these 38999 series III connectors is enhanced further by the built in grounding spring mechanism.
