The Festo SIEN-M8NB-PO-S-L is a small inductive proximity sensor designed for detecting metal objects at close range. With an M8 threaded barrel and a sensing distance of 2.5 mm, it is typically used where space is limited and reliable object detection is still required. It operates on a 10-30 V DC supply and provides a PNP, normally closed output. This sensor is typically installed in compact machinery, automation assemblies, and production equipment where larger sensors simply do not fit.
This is an inductive sensor, meaning it detects metallic targets without physical contact. When a metal object enters the sensing range, the output state changes, allowing the control system to react immediately.
The SIEN-M8NB-PO-S-L uses a PNP normally closed (NC) output, which is often preferred in safety-aware control logic where a broken wire can be detected as a fault. The wide DC voltage range allows it to work with most standard PLC inputs. Installation is straightforward, especially in machines already designed around M8 sensors.
It is often selected when precise, repeatable detection is needed, but space constraints prevent the use of larger proximity sensors.
