The Festo SIEN-M5B-NS-S-L is a small inductive proximity sensor designed to detect metal objects in confined spaces. With an M5 barrel size and a sensing distance of 0.8 mm, it is typically used where space is limited and precise positioning is required. It operates on a 10-30 V DC supply and provides an NPN normally open output, making it compatible with common industrial control systems. This sensor is used in everyday automation tasks rather than complex sensing applications.
The sensor detects metallic targets without physical contact. When a metal object enters the sensing range, the output switches, allowing the control system to respond instantly. Because there is no mechanical contact, wear is minimal, and service life is longer than that of mechanical switches. It is commonly installed near moving parts where accurate detection is critical and physical contact is impractical.
It fits well where sensors must be mounted close together or inside narrow machine frames.
