Drivers, Receivers, Transceivers are line interface integrated circuits (ICs) that provide the required hardware resources for communication across trace lengths or extended cables.

These line interface semiconductor devices manage to go in and out of communication with computer systems. Furthermore, they are also used in units of computer systems’ communication circuits like ethernet ports. In addition, they are available in diverse types with specific applications in various areas.

What are the Different Types of Interfaces ICs?

These interface integrated circuit devices are classified into various types, including:

  • Line drivers – These driver ICs are integral components of a digital system ideal for communicating digital signals using cables. They primarily function to drive loads like a transmission line where they match the output impedance.
  • Differential line drivers – These electrical devices transmit analogue and audio signals at a distance without picking up minimal noise. They transmit the information by utilizing dual complementary and exact signals on each of their conductors as two different signals. The conductors are either traces on a circuit board or twisted wires together. Upon detecting the difference between wires by the receiving circuit, the differential line drivers act to resist the electromagnetic noise.
  • Transceivers – These line transceiver integrated circuits function to send signals using a channel interconnected from a transmitter and transmit them to the receiver on the line’s opposite end. They are widely used in electronic devices.
  • Receivers – These electronic devices receive radio signals and alter them into usable information.
  • Differential line receivers – These ICs are mostly combined with differential voltage drivers to make transceivers. The interpreted differential voltage signals are converted into standard logic signals.
  • Transmitters – These line transmitter ICs are used to transmit multipoint data for various industrial and signal processing applications.
