A toroidal transformer is a unique type of electronic transformer having a doughnut-like structure. Transformers offer potential design reliability, flexibility, and scalability when making a comparison with a traditional shell and fundamental kind of transformers. They are a compact solution for low-KVA-rated equipment and tools employed in health, industrial, green energy, and musical applications.
Like a linear transformer, a toroidal transformer functions on the same electromagnetic induction principles. It has primary and secondary windings surrounding a toroidal core. Power may be transmitted from the main coil to the secondary coil because of the electromagnetic force (EMF) that is created as the current passes through the primary winding and creates a current in the secondary winding.
The toroid's perfect magnetic circuit allows it to operate at greater flux densities than E-I laminates, which lowers the number of wire turns and/or core cross-sectional area needed. Both advantages lessen losses. Toroidal transformers generally have an efficiency of 90 to 95 percent, compared to less than 90% for E-I laminates. More focus has been placed in recent years on the energy efficiency of electrical equipment. Lighting and computer equipment are the most notable examples of the minimum efficiency criteria that have been proposed for all sorts of electrical devices.
