What Do Level Dial Indicators Measure? 

Unlike standard dial indicators, where the measuring needle moves directly in line with the measurement, lever dial indicators utilise a lever mechanism to magnify small movements of the contact point. A small, uniquely shaped tip that contacts the surface being measured. The contact point is connected to a lever that pivots on a fulcrum. A slight movement of the contact point provides a more significant angular movement of the lever. The lever's motion is then converted into a rotary motion of a pointer on a circular dial through a system of gears. The dial is progressed with precise markings, and the pointer shows the measured value.
