Pneumatic Rodless Cylinders

Pneumatic rodless cylinders are a type of linear actuator that utilises compressed air to produce motion but without a traditional piston rod extending outside the cylinder body. Moreover, they offer unique advantages in applications where space is limited, long strokes are needed, or rod buckling is a concern. Their compact format and efficient operation make them a valuable asset in various industries.   

How Do Pneumatic Rodless Cylinders Operate?

Instead of a rod, a pneumatic rodless cylinder apply a different mechanism to transmit force, such as:   

  • Magnetic Coupling: In this type, the piston within the cylinder is joined to an external carriage through a strong magnet. The movement of the piston, driven by air pressure, causes the carriage to move along the outside of the cylinder.   
  • Mechanical Coupling: This type uses a mechanical connection, like a slotted cylinder with a yoke or carriage that moves along the slot as the piston moves.
