How Do V/F (Voltage-to-Frequency) Converters Function?

There are several ways for V/F conversion, but a typical technique involves utilising an integrator and a comparator. The input voltage is integrated over time, generating a ramp voltage. The ramp voltage is compared to a threshold voltage. When the ramp voltage exceeds the line, the comparator activates a pulse.

F/V Converters (Frequency-to-Voltage): A Closer Look

F/V converters serve the opposite conversion, taking a frequency input signal and generating an output voltage proportional to the input frequency.   

Working Principle of V/F Converters

The most typical approach for F/V conversion involves using a monostable multivibrator and a low-pass filter. Each input pulse activates the monostable multivibrator to create a pulse of fixed width and amplitude. The output of the monostable multivibrator is fed to a low-pass filter, which averages the pulses to generate a DC voltage similar to the input frequency.
