Cable Avoidance Tools (C.A.T), or cable or utility locators, are electronic devices used in construction, excavation, and utility maintenance to locate and avoid underground utilities such as electrical cables, water pipes, gas lines, and telecommunication cables. A cable detection tool comprises two main components, a transmitter, and a receiver. The transmitter sends out a signal detected by a receiver. The operator uses the receiver to trace the signal and locate underground utilities. Additionally, cable avoidance tools use GPR technology to scan the ground and detect the presence of buried objects. GPR sends electromagnetic waves into the desired location and measures the reflections to create a subsurface image.

• Signal Generator Mode (Genny): Genny is used in conjunction with CAT for efficient location and detection of various sockets or valves.
