Working Principle of Anemometers:

The working principle of anemometers can vary depending on the used anemometer type. The anemometer is equipped with sensors or mechanisms to transform the rotational motion into an electrical signal that is measured and interpreted.

For instance, a cup anemometer comprises three or four cups mounted on a horizontal axis connected to a central shaft. The rotation speed is directly proportional to the wind speed, which causes the cups to rotate. An electronic or mechanical mechanism counts the number of rotations per unit of time, providing an estimate of wind speed.

The integrated vane or propeller determines the exerted force in a vane anemometer. The incorporated sensors within the anemometer determine the wind direction and speed by measuring the vane's position.
