WJ Furse Power distribution systems enhanced surge protector - ESP-D/ DS Series The D/ DS range offers a further enhanced series to the existing ESP range of mains protector range for specific systems, complementing the existing D1 Series. Having a low let through voltage combined with the mains test Type 1, 2 and 3 to BS EN 61643, the D/ DS series is designed for use on low current single phase systems (up to 10A or 32A) to protect against transient over voltages on the mains supply, and offering an increased exposure level covering lighting protection zones (LPZ) 0 -3. It also features a 3 way visual indication of protector status and advanced pre-failure warning, and remote indication facilities to a BMS via a volt-free contact. (DS Version) Features and Benefits: Combined type 1, 2 and 3 tested protector (to BS EN 61643) Low let through voltages Industry leading, enhanced protection to BS EN 62305 Compact DIN housing 3 way indication facility of protector status and advanced pre-failure warning Remote indication facility (DS Version) Protector’s offer repeated protection against transient over voltages Applications: The D/ DS range is for low current mains power supply applications, e.g. CCTV cameras, alarm panels, industrial battery chargers and telemetry equipment Surge Protection Devices, SPDs (DIN-rail) Voltage surges, often referred to as spikes or transients are typically caused by switching of fluorescent lights, fuses blowing or nearby lightning activity. The worst voltage surges are usually caused by lightning and can reach up to 6000V, with current surges of over 3000A. The maximum size of the voltage and current surges depends on the location within the building's wiring system. BS7671: 2011 Amendment 1 Sections 443 and 534 cover risk assessment and provides guidance on protection of electronic equipment for installation engineers to follow. The fullest information on lightning and surge protection comes from the BSEN 62305 series of standa...
