Wire Wool

Wire wool, also called steel wool or wire sponge, is a bundle of flexible and very fine steel filaments or strands designed to provide abrasive applications, including sanding, polishing, and cleaning various surfaces. They are typically bundled together to form the familiar pad or roll of wire wool and are commonly used in various applications due to their abrasive and cleaning properties. Wire wool comes in different grades or levels of coarseness–typically numbered from 0000 (very fine) to 4 (coarse). The coarser grades are more abrasive, while the finer grades are used for polishing and finer tasks. Different Grades and Applications of Wire Wool

• Extra fine (0000) Wire Wool: Extra-fine wire wool grade is extremely fine and is often used for fine polishing, removing paint or varnish, and cleaning delicate surfaces like glass or chrome.
• Fine (00 to 1) Wire Wool: Fine-grade wire wools are used for various cleaning and polishing tasks, such as removing rust, paint, or stains from metal surfaces, refinishing wood, or preparing surfaces for painting.
• Medium (2 to 3) Wire Wool: Medium grades are suitable for heavier cleaning and surface preparation, including paint and rust removal from metal, cleaning grills, or scrubbing stubborn dirt and stains.
• Coarse (4) Wire Wool: Coarse wire wool is the thickest and most abrasive grade, suitable for heavy-duty tasks like stripping paint, removing rust from metal, or cleaning brickwork.
