Hygrometers

A hygrometer is an instrument typically designed to measure the amount of humidity (relative humidity) and water vapour in the atmosphere, soil, or other confined spaces. These devices are widely used in meteorology to control indoor climate and preserve materials where air moisture can affect multiple production processes. A hygrometer integrates a built-in digital LCD for easy-to-read measurements, with some models comprising a data logger for recording measurements. These environmental test and measurement instruments can predict the weather, manage HVAC systems, maintain controlled environments, and monitor storage conditions in various domains. Additionally, they come in multiple forms, including digital, handheld, and wall-mounted hygrometers, depending on the intended applications and environment.

Popular Types of Hygrometers:

• Dew Point Hygrometer: Measures the temperature at which air becomes saturated (when dew starts to form). By cooling a surface until condensation forms on it, the device can determine the dew point of the surrounding air.
• Psychrometers: Also called thermohygrometers, Psychrometers utilise two thermometers: a dry bulb and a wet bulb. By comparing the temperatures of the two thermometers and referencing the difference in a chart or formula, relative humidity can be determined.
• Digital Hygrometers:  These Thermo hygrometers incorporate a digital display and often data loggers for reading and data analysis. They are the most used and advanced hygrometers, easily monitoring and measuring air humidity. Digital Thermo hygrometers come in capacitive and resistive hygrometers, providing precise measurements and calculations. 
• Electric Hygrometers: Also called hair hygrometers, are traditional hygrometers measuring the expansion or contraction of a material in response to changes in humidity. Electric hygrometers are generally less precise and slower to respond than their digital counterparts; however, they still provide accurate readings when properly maintained and calibrated.

Hygrometers and Moisture Meters: The Key Difference

Hygrometers and moisture meters are both moisture measurement devices; however, they are designed for different purposes and operate on different principles. Hygrometers measure relative humidity in the air, providing information about the atmosphere and environment. In contrast, moisture meters measure the moisture content of materials in buildings, agriculture, etc. Additionally, they also differ in terms of sensor types, measurement ranges, and outputs.
