Colour sensors, also called colour detectors or colour detection sensors, are electronic devices that incorporate photodiodes or phototransistors to detect, identify, and differentiate colours precisely. They detect the intensity of light and work based on the principle that different colours (red, green, blue) reflect different wavelengths of light. These photoelectric sensors use light to illuminate the object and then determine the object's colour by measuring the reflected light. Two Common Types of Color Sensors

Colour sensors come in two common types:

• Trichromatic sensors – Also called RGB sensors, trichromatic sensors use a white light source and filters to separate the reflected light into red, green, and blue (RGB) components. The sensor then measures the intensity of each colour to determine the overall colour of the object.
• Spectrophotometers – These sensors use a prism or grating to separate the reflected light into a spectrum of all its wavelengths. The sensor then measures the intensity of each wavelength to create a complete profile of the object's colour.
