The Festo R-3-M5 is a mechanically operated 3/2 way valve designed for basic pneumatic control tasks. It works through a roller lever activated by physical contact, making it useful wherever airflow needs to change with machine movement or position. The valve is monostable, meaning it returns to its normal state automatically when the mechanical force is removed. This type of valve is typically used where electrical control is unnecessary or not practical.
A moving part, such as a cam or actuator, pushes the roller lever. Once pressed, the valve switches the air flow. When the force is released, the internal spring returns the valve to its original position.
The R-3-M5 uses metric M5 ports, which are ideal for compact pneumatic setups where space is limited. Its small size allows it to be mounted close to moving parts without complex brackets or wiring. The mechanical design reduces failure points compared to electrically actuated valves, especially in dusty or vibration-heavy environments.
It works well as a signal valve that responds directly to motion rather than sensors.
