The 3M 8428-12 is a pre-stretched EPDM rubber cold shrink tubing designed to provide environmental sealing and insulation to cable splices, terminations, and inline connections. The tube is shipped expanded on a removable core; once placed over the joint and the core is removed, it contracts to form a tight, moisture-resistant seal. It accommodates conductor sizes ranging from 500 to 800 kcmil (≈approximately 300–400 mm²) and operates reliably between –40 °C and +90 °C. Rated for 1,000 V dielectric performance, it is widely used in industrial, power, and field splice applications, requiring no heat or tools.
