A 3M™ Heat Shrink Tubing is a thin-walled 3:1 flexible tubing that offers the benefits of a one-piece adhesive-backed design and has an insulating strength of 700 v/mil. The tube is made of a flame-retardant flexible polyolefin with an inner layer of a unique thermoplastic adhesive. The heat-shrink outer wall is selectively cross-linked while maintaining the inner sealant liner's high flow rate and good adhesion. When heated above 121 °C (250 °F), EPS-300 tubing rapidly shrinks to conform to the skin, causing a molten adhesive liner to flow and coat the substrate.
Adhesives form flexible bonds with various rubbers, plastics, and metals. Once cooled, the adhesive solidifies to form a permanent, non-drying, flexible, and waterproof barrier. Adhesive reflow occurs at temperatures above 80 °C (176 °F).
This EPS-300 tubing has a shrinkage rate of 3:1. When free, the tube is reduced by 33% of the supplied diameter, with the recovered wall thickness proportional to the recovery degree. Operating temperature ranges from -55°C (-67°F) to 110°C (230°F) with a minimum shrink temperature of 121°C (250°F).
