Addressable speciality optoelectronics encompass both surface-mount and through-hole LEDs, offering unique features such as flashing, colour-changing, and even integrated microcontrollers for enhanced functionality and programmability. Each addressable LED or sometimes a combination of LEDs features its own tiny integrated circuit IC. The IC enables the LED to obtain and interpret control signals. A data signal is transmitted to the LED, usually using a serial protocol such as APA102, WS2812B, or WS2811. This signal conveys information about the brightness and colour intensity of each LED. These LEDs are connected in a chain-like structure, with the data signal going from one LED to the next in line. Every LED obtains its data from the signal and then passes the rest of the data along the chain.
