Gedore is an abbreviation of the name GEbrüder DOwidat Remscheid. Gedore is a leading manufacturer German-based private company founded in 1919 by three brothers, Otto, Karl, and Willi Dowidat, in the city of Remscheid, Germany. The products made by the company became prominent for their quality, and the firm’s reputation perfectly stretched outside Germany. Around the 1960s, the company grew internationally, acquiring positions in South Africa, the Netherlands, Switzerland, India, and Brazil, among others. In 1990, Gedore UK was established by joining forces with L J Hydleman & Co Ltd. Today, the company is operational in more than 70 countries worldwide. It is considered one of the largest hand tool producers and providers liable for many well-known brands such as Gedore, Carolus, Metec, Klann, Lösomat, and Ochsenkopf.
