Ultrasonic Leak Detectors

As the name suggests, ultrasonic leak detectors are designed to detect leak sounds, ideal for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications. These detectors listen for leaks and can detect gas, pressure, and vacuum leaks; they are widely used for sensing ductwork, bearings, refrigerators, freezers, and steam trap leakage detection. They focus on specific frequencies of sound bands of different ranges depending on the detector type. Other sounds, such as voices, noise, traffic, and other operational sounds, do not affect the test accuracy and are filtered out.

How Do Ultrasonic Leak Detectors Work?

The working principle of an ultrasonic leak detector relies on the hissing sound of leak devices. Ultrasonic sounds are above the range that human ears cannot detect. These detectors work by a process known as heterodyning, where the detectors convert the low-frequency hissing sounds into forms that the source-connected headphones can detect. The sound becomes louder by keeping the device closer to the location and is indicated through the device through an LED meter. The leaks can also be heard from a distance, depending on the turbulence of the leak.
