Machine Guarding Accessories

Machine guarding accessories are the complete set of extra parts or components designed to provide adequate protection to the operators and prevent equipment from damage. These accessories and machine guarding are the first-line defense for the safety of workers. They protect in terms of physical barriers, for instance, a cage guard for protection against sparks or hazardous substances.

Types of machines guarding accessories:

As the types of equipment being secured might vary greatly, machine guarding and accessories span a wide range. However, some common categories of accessories are given below:

  • locks and keys (for extra security)
  • labelling accessories
  • guards (with a range of sizes and shapes)
  • installation accessories for assisting the guards in setting up.

Typical Uses of machine guarding accessories:

  • The primary purpose of machine guarding is to protect the operator and others in the work area from hazards that may arise during machine operation. These include the risk of problems such as pinch points, cornering points, reciprocating, traversing, and splinters and sparks.
  • Some guards also provide safety to workers from shavings and flying shards of metal produced by working machines.
  • The machine guarding helps prevent cuts, lacerations, bumps, and abrasions. Without this protection, injuries can result in severe illness or death.

Note: Even if you think you can work faster without a guard on a machine, there is no good reason to remove it from your machine. The guards are there to protect you!

ABB AS-i Safe Input Slave This professional ABB safe input slave are for AS-i bus and come with 1 safe input for dynamic sensors and are available with various amounts of non-safe outputs. Actuator Sensor Interface (AS-I) Actuator Sensor Interface, AS-I AS-I is a method of providing communication from simple discrete components such as an inductive sensor or switching valve via a simple two-wire network to a controlling device such as a PLC or PC. A unique feature of the AS-I system is the flat, two-core cable (stock no 242-6189 ) designed to enable fast and easy connection, ensuring correct polarity every time. The cable can be used in a network up to 100m (300m if repeaters are used). By providing power and data down the same cable, the amount of time normally used to connect sensors and actuators is dramatically reduced, thereby providing savings in cable requirements and man-hours. The choice of AS-I connection modules enables the user to connect standard sensors/actuators to the BUS with all the address benefits of using dedicated sensors/actuators. It also serves to increase the number of I/O nodes that are available to the user by the use of addressable splitter boxes. The connection modules are available in a variety of packages and can accommodate up to 4 inputs and 4 outputs. This enables up to 124 inputs and 124 outputs to be connected to a single AS-I network. Another feature of AS-I system is the method by which the sensors or modules communicate with the host. The design of the communications protocol ensures high data accuracy and error detection capabilities, making the ASI system ideal for automation in noisy and industrial environments. Benefits of AS-I Replaces hard wiring High data speed Low cost installation Intelligent diagnostics Easy to learn and install Highly flexible Can connect to other fieldbus systems User-friendly Off-site pre-assembly and test Easy maintenance Faster on-site commissioning Host or stand alone use Able to...

Pluto Safety PLC, Base Unit Pluto from ABB is an "All-Master" safety PLC concept, which simplifies the design of safety systems and achieves the highest safety category 4 according to EN 954-1. All Pluto's are Master units and can see the other Pluto's inputs, outputs and global memories. This enables the Pluto to evaluate the information from the other Pluto's and then take decisions concerning its own safety devices. The Gateway units are available for several different bus systems, i.e. Profibus ( 733-4836 ), CanOpen ( 733-4830 ), Devicenet ( 733-4849 ) and Ethernet ( 733-4842 ). Of Pluto's inputs (the smallest unit has 16 I/O), thus can be configured as either inputs or outputs. In the Pluto family by ABB most modules have dual safety outputs - potential free or PNP types. In a two-wire bus system up to 32 Pluto units can be safely connected and communicate with a superior system via a Gateway or HMI displays. Therefore within a maximum extended system 1472 I/O's can be connected. Also all input components may be connected in series for even more complexity and optimisation. Simple and easy programming facilities Easy to configure and install Up to 640 I/O's Multiple Plutos can be connected on a bus (via using the IDFIX identifier) and then further interfaced with external networks by using a Gateway, typical example RS stock number ( 733-4842 ) High safety level Free software available Programming over the bus 35 mm DIN rail mounting The IDFIX ( 733-4824 ) is an identification circuit which allows multiple Plutos to be identified when connected on a bus system. This module is available to distribute a PLC program within a network of Pluto devices. Tina adapters such as ( 733-2477 ) can be used to connect external safety monitoring equipment Note The IDFIX device ( 733-4824 ) is connected between the input terminals ID and 0V (also note that the ID...

Device Column with External Mounting Grooves and Muting Accessories Device columns are used where there are problems mounting opto-electronic protective devices. On machining centres the opto-electronic protective devices must be positioned in the open room. An Entry/Exit system is often used at the gates for automatic material transport. The device columns with the 2 external mounting grooves in combination with the muting arms, brackets and protective plates ensure flexible attachment of the muting sensors. Protective field height of 300 to 1350mm Maximum installation length: 1720mm Column height: 1740mm Suitable for use with M2000, M4000, C2000, C4000 Note Mounting kits and muting arms must be purchased separately Light Curtain
