Inclinometer Sensors

What is an inclinometer Sensors?

An inclinometer or clinometer is an intelligent device used for measuring angles of typical objects with respect to angle, slope and depression. It is also called, tilt indicator or tilt sensor.

Clinometer has the ability to measure both inclines and declines tilt of an object using three various units of measurement such as, degree, percentage points and topo. A tilt sensor has the capability to measure the tilting often both the axis of the reference plane in two axes.

The inclinometer sensor's perfection is measured by using degrees per second, which means that the measurement is carried out every second. Therefore, if the measuring equipment has a sensor with a range of only 10 degrees, the signal wouldn’t be accurate and expected as per the user needs.

In order to accurately measure the distinctions, the inclinometer must be configured with an integral component that has an accuracy of 5% or less. When angle changes are measured, the reference position is at the horizontal axis of the measurement system.

Factors influence the use of clinometers

  • Object gravity
  • Cross-axis sensitivity
  • Shock exit in the object
  • Temperature
  • A clear dimension of sight between the technician and a point is required
  • A clear object is needed to obtain the maximum precision

Inclinometer Uses

Manual or hand-held clinometer used for various surveying and measurement projects. A clinometer can provide fast measurement when it is used for surveying land and mapping. For minerals prospecting, geologic formation can determine the dip and strike by using clinometer measurement.

In forestry, few highest measurements can be carried out with a clinometer using professional methods, such as triangulation. Major artillery guns may aim at shells over long distances that are also possible using an associated clinometer.

In addition, Inclinometers are used to measure declination and inclination angles. They are also called tilt sensors, gradiometer, or inclination gauge. They are typically used in civil engineering and aviation projects, including cranes, platform and surface leveling.

The range of an inclinometer can be adjusted or linear output measured in degrees. Sensor intensity can be categorized according to their axes. The two most typically used types are absolute rotary encoders and dual axis inclinometers.

Inclinometer Applications

Different applications using inclinometer for various tasks. These sensors are used for monitoring purposes, especially to measure the movement of a pendulum. These sensors are typically sold as a pair and have a potential measured range of up to 70deg. A multi-axis inclinometer is a standard sensor for finding out the vertical and horizontal displacement of a structure.

Several commercial versions exist that use a digital inclinometer. It can also help in determining the smallest movements. These intelligent devices are normally embedded near the edge of an embankment to determine excessive lateral movement. These instruments are only used when there are significant concerns.
