What is RFI (EMI)?
EMI or electromagnetic interference is also known as Radio Frequency interference. These terms are often used interchangeably, but there are still some differences between them. EMI refers to any frequency that is created by electrical noise. On the other hand, RFI is a subset of the electrical noise present on the EMI spectrum. Due to their electromagnetic conduction or radiation, RFI may cause a disturbance that affects an electrical circuit. The radiation is emitted through an external source. The disturbance created can hinder the performance of the electrical circuit. The source can be a natural or artificial object, such as the sun or an electrical circuit.
There are two forms of RFI:
Conducted RFI: which includes high frequencies that are not needed and pass through the AC waveform.
Radiated RFI: which is usually emitted through air.
