Thermal Magnetic Circuit Breakers

Thermal magnetic circuit breakers are auto-operate protective switches designed to protect against overloads or short-circuits in electrical circuits. These breakers feature electromagnets and bimetallic strips to detect electrical surges. These thermal aspects of devices allow for larger and delayed overloads, such as in the case of motors with small overloads each time the engine is switched ON for a short period of time. This avoids any damage or tripping circuits.

How Do They Work?

The integrated electromagnet is highly sensitive to higher surges in power currents and responds efficiently by switching OFF the current flow to the component. On the other hand, the bimetallic strip expands upon exposure to excessive current flow that causes bending of the strips towards a trip bar and turns the circuit OFF. These strips return to a normal state, allowing the operation to become routine and continue when cooled down and reset.
