XLR (External Line Return) connectors are a type of electrical connector extensively used in audio and professional video applications. On the other hand, the 5-pin XLR connectors are suitable for more specialised applications, such as DMX lighting control in the entertainment industry.

• XLR-4: XLR-4 connectors have four pins and are sometimes and are less common than XLR-3 connectors. They are primarily used for special applications, such as DC power distribution in some audio equipment. 
• XLR-6: XLR-6 connectors featuring six pins are used for lighting control and DMX (Digital Multiplex) lighting systems.
• XLR-7: XLR-7 connectors with seven pins are found in intercom systems and lighting control applications.
• XLR-8: XLR-8 connectors comprise eight pins that find applications in certain lighting control and intercom systems.
• XLR-9: XLR-9 connectors have nine pins for various applications, including AES/EBU digital audio signals.
• XLR-10: XLR-10 connectors include ten pins, finding applications in some proprietary audio and lighting control systems.

Male XLR Connectors Vs. Female XLR Connectors:

XLR connectors come in male and female variations–ensuring proper connections in audio setups. Male XLR connectors, often called XLR plugs, carry pins that protrude and fit into the corresponding sockets in female XLR connectors. In contrast, female XLR connectors, often called XLR jacks, feature holes or receptacles that accept male XLR pins, creating an electrical connection. 

What is a Mini-XLR Connector?

A Mini-XLR connector, often called a "miniature XLR connector" or "mini-XLR," is a smaller version of the standard XLR connector commonly used in audio and professional audiovisual equipment. These connectors resemble their full-sized counterparts; however, they are more compact. Mini XLR connectors feature fewer pins and are often used in applications where space is limited or require smaller or lightweight connectors.
