Gearboxes
A gearbox, also called a gearhead or transmission, is a mechanical device comprising multiple gears of varying sizes within a unit. These mechanical components are designed to change the speed and torque (rotational force) of power produced by an engine or electric motor. The motor gearboxes can transmit power from a source (such as an engine) to a load (like wheels in a vehicle or a machine's moving parts). The integrated gears within a gearbox mesh together to transmit power at high speed, depending on the configurations of the gears. The gear ratio–the teeth numbers on the driving gears, determines the speed and torque relationship.
Popular Types of Gearboxes:
The electric motor gearboxes come in various forms, such as:
- Manual Gearboxes – These gearboxes are commonly found in vehicles where the driver manually selects gears using a gearshift.
- Automatic Transmission – These devices change gears automatically based on speed and load conditions. These gearboxes are often used in cars.
- Spur Gearboxes – Comprise straight teeth for high-power transmission efficiency mounted on a parallel shaft.

- Bevel Gearboxes – Contains bevel gears designed for perpendicular shafts.
