Power Line Filter Modules

A power filter line is also known as an EMI power filter line. It is a passive bi-directional network, electrical equipment capable of filtering a specific frequency point in the power line or filtering the frequency from a specific frequency point. Line filters are specifically designed for EMI interference in the mains. This network usually consists of two ports, is elective in terms of frequency, and is composed of components like inductors, capacitors, and resistors. 

This type of filter is also referred to as a reflection filter because of its working principle. It offers high series impedance and low parallel impedance, particularly in the filter stop band. They also provide the source of extremely mismatched noise and its impedance with load impedance, and in such a way, it transmits the unwanted frequency components back to the source of the noise. 

Things to Consider when Selecting Power Line Filters

There are three main factors that you should consider when selecting power line filter modules:

  • Size and Structure

As the filter is potted from within, therefore, the operating environment is not the main concern. However, the temperature properties of all the potting materials and filter capacitors impact the environmental properties of the line filters.

Structure of a Power Line Filter

Power line filters are planned as passive filters made out of resistors, capacitors, and inductors, without dynamic parts like semiconductors. As per the qualities of EMI at the power port, the EMI line channel is a latent low-pass channel, which communicates AC to the power supply without weakening and significantly lessens the EMI commotion approaching AC. In the interim, it successfully stifles EMI noise created by power hardware to keep them from entering the AC power grid to slow down other electronic gadgets.

Working Principle of Power Line Filters

The circuits used in power line filters usually consist of passive and active filtering. The main types of passive filtering include inductive, capacitive, and complex filtering.
